Which Henna do I need:?
Henna for Hair-Most people who want to use henna as a conditioning treatment and aren't looking for
dramatic color results should choose henna for hair. The hair pics above show dark brown hair treated with
Jamila Henna for Hair and it creates beautifully conditioned hair with very subtle highlights.

Jamila '09 or Egyptian- People who crave a little more coloring from their henna in addition to conditioning
should go for body art quality henna. This henna is triple sifted and allows for more penetration of the hair
shaft which means more color.(see 'petrolina' in my
henname contest winners page to see what this henna
looks like on dark brown or black hair).
If you want to add a little more flair then use hibiscus flowers or even paprika to kick it up a notch;-)

Yemeni Henna- For those of us who may need more coverage for gray use yemeni or Jamila '09 and Amla or
Indigo
Any of these hennas can be used to do a henna gloss with great softening and conditioning results as well,
this is also a super way to 'stretch' your henna!

There are a few things we must know before  embarking on the henna journey

1. Buy only natural henna.
You will not find this in your local grocery store
Some Indian markets do carry henna, but many times the
henna is not fresh and will have poor results.

2. Henna does not come in different colors.
i.e. blonde henna, red henna, brunette henna so if you see these items don't
waste your money thinking your buying henna, some only contain minute amounts of henna and some don't
contain henna at all!!

3. Henna is not BLACK!
You can color your hair black naturally using henna and indigo but DO NOT purchase products that claim to be
'black henna' because they may contain harmful chemicals which may burn the skin ans hair.

4. Know what goes in your mix.
I saw on youtube.com lots of people mixing up stuff with henna and putting it on the hair. All you need for your
henna mix is henna and lemon juice and an essential oil like tea tree, cajeput, geranium, clove or lavender.
I prefer lavender oil because it is safe for most people including children and pregnant women to use (some EOs are
not safe for everyone!)
Essential Oils are to "terp" your mix which does give a better coloring result.

No eggs, or olive oil or queen helene just henna and lemon juice(you can always deep condition afterwards)

5. Even though you can not buy henna in different shades you can add certain things to your mix like indigo (to
darken), amla to condition, I have even added hibiscus to get a beautiful burgundy shade and ground cinnamon to
spice up browns!

6. REMEMBER THE KEY TO DEEPER COLOR WITH HENNA IS REPETITION, THE MORE YOU REPEAT THE
PROCESS THE DEEPER YOUR COLOR WILL BECOME.
Henna also strengthens the hair strands leaving you're hair strong and shiny which also helps growth and can even help control dandruff
and itchy scalp!!
Henna For Hair
Henna is wonderful for so many things from strengthening hair strands to a natural alternative
to harsh chemical dyes and since it is natural it is safe even for relaxed hair.
